What is SMMASH?
SMMASH is longitudinal, online survey that looks at the sexual, mental and wider health of gay, bisexual men and other men who have sex with men in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.
We ran our first survey in 2013 and have followed this up every 3 years with SMMASH2 (2016), SMMASH3 (2019) and our most recent SMMASH-Pan survey, which looked at our health and wellbeing during the first UK COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.
The primary objective of the SMMASH study is to understand the health and wellbeing of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men so we can understand our most important health issues and improve services for our community.
